Roy Keane left speechless after Micah Richards comments

Roy Keane

It’s a rare sight to witness Roy Keane speechless. But with Miah Richards bringing up Keane’s career ending tackle on Alf-Inge Haaland, seems to have done just that. We have known Roy Keane for being this straight talker with a rowdy attitude. This attitude has made him one of the most feared players of his era both on and off the pitch. His warrior attitude has made him one of the players with highest titles won as a Captain.

Richards and Roy Keane were in the punditry panel for Cityzen’s PL opener against West Ham. New City signing Haaland made his league debut. Also, it was well documented that the striker’s father, Alf-Inge was in present in the stands, and he watched on as his son netted twice to open his City account with flair. With Haaland’s dad amongst the crowd, Richards couldn’t resist the urge and brought up the tackle that saw Keane end his career during a Manchester derby in 2001. Roy Keane was left lost for words, but seemed to enjoy Richards’ joke as their unique friendship continues.

The pundits in the panel were discussing about where Haaland gets his athleticism from. Karen Carney explained how the striker actually has some great genes. The former England Women’s international said: “We checked it earlier, his mum is an athlete as well and we know what his dad has done in his history. He’s going to be an absolute specimen…”

The Host David Jones then interrupted, and went on to ask: “What’s his dad done?”

Richards saw his opportunity and wasn’t about to let go of it. “He was waiting for Roy over there before,” Richards joked. “I have never seen Roy so nervous, to be honest.”

The infamous tackle by Roy Keane

Richards was referring the infamous incident which saw Haaland’s career decline, as Roy Keane got his vengeance back after the Norwegian had bad mouthed him for being injured while playing for Leeds few years earlier. Keane was suspended for three games and fined £5,000 initially back in 2001. He then went on and admitted that he meant to foul Haaland. He then was given a further five-game suspension and a fine of £150,000.
