Mauricio Pochettino was signed by Chelsea in 2023 before the start of the season. The Argentine was given the charge of the Stamford Bridge and was expected to bring back the glory days. The expectations of fans and the club however didn’t seem to be fulfilled and this has caused disappointment in the fans.
Despite spending a lot of money on the squad, Chelsea seemed to be struggling throughout the season. The Blues will once again miss the Champions League spot. Chelsea also will be trophyless for yet another season. However they were superior team in some matches, they failed to stay consistent and this has hampered the club’s hopes in winning the silverware. Chelsea lost the Carabao Cup final against young side of Liverpool which raised the questions about Pochettino’s future.
What does future hold for Pochettino at Chelsea
Recently there have been many rumours that the Argentine manager may be sacked at the end of the season. Despite this rumours, Pochettino seems to be doing his job well currently. Chelsea have managed to grab all three points from their london rivals Tottenham and West Ham United in the premier league. The blues had an amazing performance against Spurs where they won 2-0. Chelsea then went on to completely dominate West Ham. The Stamford bridge witnessed 5-0 victory against the hammers.
Chelsea are currently on the seventh position in premier league. Manchester United’s defeat against Crystal Palace has boosted the chances of European competition for Chelsea. The blues having 3 games left this season have currently locked their eyes on european spot.
The reports according to The Athletic, Chelsea have been the fourth best side in the league after the matchday 20. This may show that Chelsea could benefit much more from Pochettino if he is given some more time. It should also been considered that the blues had a lot of serious injuries this season. With the absence of many first choice players, the Argentine still has managed to do a decent job. However Pochettino’s future at Chelsea doesn’t seem to be promising as the blues are heavily linked with Ruben Amorim.
