Enzo Maresca Greenlights Another Chelsea Deal

Chelsea Stadium

The rebuilding process of Chelsea continues to progress under Enzo Maresca as he gives his nod to another transfer. The Blues are interested in signing Andreas Pereira who moved to Fulham from Manchester United in 2022. He was assigned the no.10 role where he thrived and made plenty of goal contributions.

Newcastle United are another team who have shown interest in the Brazilian’s services this summer. While he could consider playing in the Champions League with Monaco, he finds it more comfortable in the English landscape. The 28-year-old is accustomed to Premier League football and has spent much of his career playing in England. He was also a part of Brazil’s Copa America squad which got eliminated by Uruguay in the quarter-finals. If Chelsea get their hands on him, he would be the sixth new acquisition at the Stamford Bridge.

How Good is Pereira?

Andreas Pereira has had significant influence in Fulham’s offensive plays and counter-attacks. The former United midfielder has netted 4 times and made 9 assists last season, a decent record for his first season at the club. He had a consistent performance in the final third with an average of 1.4 shots, 2.3 key passes, and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Premier League.

According to an analysis by EPL Index, Pereira made 44.60 passes per 90 minutes per game which ranks him in the 72nd percentile. His rate of progressive passing with a figure of 4.75 per 90 shows his ability to get the ball forward with effective plays. Despite his limited defensive capability, he dominates in the attacking and playmaking departments. His move to Chelsea would see him reunite with former Fulham teammate, Tosin Adarabioyo.

Gallagher’s Future at Chelsea

The Blues have reportedly made contact with Pereira’s agent who confirmed the star is available for a sum of £35m. This has thrown Connor Gallagher’s future in doubt. The homegrown Chelsea talent has entered his final 12 months of contract and is yet to have his contract talks with the club. While they could try and sell him for a fee similar to the one during Mason Mount’s sale, the concerned clubs find it unfeasible.

Gallagher showed great character in his plays during his spell at Patrick Viera’s Crystal Palace. However, he failed to live up to the growing expectations following that season. Gallagher’s confidence in his physique is seen in his courage to engage in on-field duels and tenacity. But one may find his attempts to win the ball too aggressive. Many of his tackles usually lead to foul and often finds his name in the referee’s black book.

As for Chelsea, they are in no rush to sell him. Any offer below their asking price would see the deal collapse. They will look to extend his contract if he stays after the transfer window closes to prevent losing him for nothing.
