Malang Sarr will join Lens as the agreement has been reached. Furthermore, a medical would be conducted in the next few days and the signing will be official then.
Malang Sarr joined Chelsea from hometown club Nice in the summer of 2020 as a highly-rated 21-year-old, but he quickly joined Porto on loan. Sarr proposed further loans, but he ended up staying at Stamford Bridge and made 21 appearances.
He hasn’t played for the club since May 2022 though. Sources described Sarr as being at his lowest after a move to Le Havre failed at the start of 2024.
The centre-back made 21 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea, two of which came as a substitute as he helped the Blues win the Club World Cup.
But he played in just eight league games and spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Monaco.
That deal included an option to buy which Monaco decided not to take up, though Sarr is now expected to make a move to Ligue Un with Lens frontrunners for his signature.
Chelsea busy with replacements and new talents signing.
Another player who could leave Chelsea this summer is Conor Gallagher, who has attracted attention from Tottenham and Aston Villa.
The defender is still relatively young and he could get his career back on track if he gets ample opportunities with RC Lens. The French outfit need to improve their defensive options, and the 25-year-old could be a useful acquisition for them.
Malang Sarr has shown his quality in the past during his time at OGC Nice. He will look to establish himself as a key player for lens. The defender has extensive experience of playing in Ligue 1, and he should be able to settle in quickly and make an instant impact.
The Frenchman still has lot to prove at this level, and has plenty of time to get back to best. Meanwhile, Chelsea should look to bring in a quality replacement this summer, and it remains to be seen whether they can plug the gaps in their defensive unit.
The Blues have typically been busy this summer both in terms of incomings and outgoings. Although their spending has not been to the extent of previous windows so far.
Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva join the host of first team players who have left Stamford Bridge since their 2021 Champions League success. They only have three players from that season’s squad still at the club.
Sarr to potentially join RC Lens
But Fabrizio Romano reports the defender has finally ran out of patience with Chelsea over a potential exit, and has reached an agreement to terminate his contract.
Romano adds that, pending the completion of a medical, Sarr will join RC Lens.
A source told the outlet: “I have never seen him as low as this. This is the first time I have seen him like this. He tries to change his mental state, but it is hard when you are not playing.
“He is not in the first-team dressing room anymore, he is with the kids in the other building. The defender feels outside the group. The Frenchman tries to hide his feelings, but I know him, what he is really feeling.”
