As per reports, Arsenal are very close to sign Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori. Both the clubs are nearing to an agreement on the transfer fee.
Calafiori’s agent Alessandro Lucci was the main man who acted like the best bridge between the two clubs. He was very much instrumental in dealing with the Gunners. This resulted in an easy win for Arsenal as they might have beaten clubs like Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea and Juventus in the race to sign him. The Italian central back is valued at £38 million and it looks like the best and easiest deal possible for the London club.
However, former sporting director of Serie A, Walter Sabatini, is not a fan of this move. He totally disagrees with the fact that this can be a great move for the both the club and the player.

Why Sabatini is against Calafiori’s transfer to Arsenal
Walter Sabatini is not happy with this transfer. He is totally against the idea of Calafiori leaving Bologna for English giants Arsenal.
“It’s a disaster when strong young players like him leave our championship. 45 million euros as a valuation is a huge sum but the defenders were paid even more.”

The former Serie A sporting director believes that this move to Arsenal is a total disaster for Italian football. Calafiori has been admired by the fans of Serie A in the previous season. He played under Thiago Motta at Bologna and helped his club finish in the top 4 of the Italian league. He is a rock-solid defender who is strong in air and on ground. With exceptional understanding of passing and tackling, he is an incredible defender who can start moves from his own box. The Italian national team called Calafiori to play in this year’s Euro competition. However, Italy was eliminated by Switzerland in the Round of 16, which was unexpected. However, Calafiori received huge praise from fans all over the world after his Euro 2024 campaign.

What’s next for Arsenal
It seems that the Gunners are very much interested in solidifying their defense. Arsenal have been buying a lot of defenders for the past few seasons. Arteta is always trying to improve the team’s defense every season. If we look at the transfer history of Arsenal under Mikel Arteta, most of the club’s investments went towards defenders. It has the likes of Gabriel, Ben White, Zinchenko, Tomiyasu, Timber and many more.
Adding Calafiori to the squad might tighten the defense even more. It could possibly become a wall. But do you think this will actually work and help the Gunners win the title after 2004?
