Chelsea have been playing very good in the recent matches. The Blues managed to take all 3 points against Tottenham Hotspurs and West Ham United. These victories have helped the blues to climb up the Premier League table. Chelsea currently are on 7th position in the premier league and can very much achieve their place in Europa League.
The Champions League spot is out of consideration for Chelsea. The revised Champions League format will be used from this season. Italy and Germany have additional qualification places. Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool have already qualified and the fourth team will be either Aston Villa of Tottenham Hotspurs. Currently Aston Villa are favourites to claim the fourth position and have 7 points lead over Spurs having played one more game than them.
Europa League qualification scenario for Chelsea
Chelsea can earn their place in Europa league but it depends on lot of factors. Recent defeat of United against Crystal Palace has been very helpful for the London side. Chelsea have three games in hand to grab their place in Europe.
Finishing in 5th place is still a possibility for Chelsea but they have to depend on Spurs and Newcastle to drop points. Tottenham very likely seem to finish 5th and qualify directly for the Europa League. Chelsea however have another possibility to book their spot in europa league. The winners of FA cup will qualify for europa league. Manchester United and Manchester City will compete in the final. If United win, they will be guaranteed their spot in europa but if they fail to win, it will benefit the blues.
If United win FA Cup, the fifth position in premier league will play in europa league and sixth in conference league. However if City wins, fifth and sixth position will earn their spot in europa league while seventh position will get a chance to play conference league. Chelsea will try to finish sixth and earn their spot in europa league as City are the favourites to win FA cup. If they finish seventh they still will be able to play in conferance league. The Blues will be rooting for Man City to win against United 25th of May.
