Fabrizio Romano gives an insight into the deal about Aston Villa signing Calum Chambers

About Football Express UK

Fabrizio Romano has provided the input about Aston Villa signing Arsenal defender Calum Chambers in this January transfer window.

The 27-year-old hasn’t had a great time since joining the north London club back in 2014 from fellow Premier League club Southampton. The defender had a couple of loan spells during this period with Middlesbrough and Fulham. But, he has never been able to secure his place in the first-team squad at the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking with the Qué Golazo YouTube channel, quoted by This is football, Romano stated that signing Chambers is a great business by Aston Villa. The Birmingham side managed to finalize this deal away from the spotlight just like they did with the Danny Ings signing in the summer.

The journalist further claimed that the Villa hierarchy are committed to working with the new manager Steven Gerrard and the atmosphere inside the club is very good. Romano said:

“Chambers is a very good signing, in my opinion. It was a top-secret signing like Danny Ings, so they’re very, very good and congrats to Aston Villa. Congrats, because all the players [Villa signed], we can say they are loving to work with Steven Gerrard. So the atmosphere is really beautiful and when it happens in football, it is always amazing.”

Can Calum Chambers rejuvenate his career at Aston Villa?

Calum Chambers should be a very good addition to the Aston Villa side. The Villans are eyeing for improvement under Steven Gerrard and are keen on fighting for the European spot. Therefore, the Birmingham club will need depth in the squad to challenge for the top-six place in the league.

Gerrard’s side doesn’t have many qualities in the centre-back position after the preferred back four. So, Chambers will bring quality and depth to the squad. Meanwhile, the Liverpool legend likes to have defenders in the squad who are comfortable in possession. And the 27-year-old will tick that box as well.

The Englishman can be deployed in the heart of the defence as well as the right-back position. Therefore, his versatility will be a very good weapon for Gerrard’s team. So, it will be interesting to see how much improvement Aston Villa can show in this season and also next campaign.
