Aston Villa beat Brentford in a behind closed door friendly

About Football Express UK

Aston Villa came away victorious by 2-1 against Brentford at Villa Park in a behind closed door friendly yesterday afternoon.

The visitors went ahead into the game thanks to the contributions from John Da Silva after capitalising on a bad mistake from Kortney Hause. However, the hosts came back into the game brilliantly in the second half as Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings’ goals helped Steven Gerrard’s side to complete the come-back.

Meanwhile, new signing Robin Olson and Callum Chambers made their debuts for their new club. Danny Ings started the game for the Villans before Watkins replaced the former Liverpool at the half-time mark.

On the other hand, Brentford fielded a young squad with noticeably David Raya, Mathias Jansen and Da Silva returned from their injury issues. However, the new signing Christian Eriksen wasn’t involved in this game.

Meanwhile, the youngster Jacob Ramsey is continuing his great form this season as he displayed a very good performance on the day and almost scored a brilliant solo goal. On the other hand, another youngster Chukwuemeka also had a great game and made a telling contribution on the equaliser.

Aston Villa 2-1 Brentford: closed-door friendly

After sacking Dean Smith and bringing on Steven Gerrard, the relegation threat has been wiped out for the Birmingham side as they are currently 11th in the Premier League table with 26 points in 21 games, 11 points off the relegation spot.

Meanwhile, the Liverpool legend has brought Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne into the squad. And both have already showcased their qualities in this short time. So, the Villans can be optimistic about their future under Steven Gerrard.

So, it will be interesting to see how far the former Rangers boss can take the Villans this season. The Englishman will be looking to implement his philosophy in the squad this season and make a charge for the European spot next season. As they have looked quite promising under Gerrard so far this season.

On the other hand, Brentford has enjoyed a decent return to the Premier League this season. The newly-promoted side is currently 14th in the table with 23 points in 23 games. They are eight points ahead of the relegation spot. However, they still have to work hard for their safety this season.
