Wolverhampton Wanderers January transfer window round-up

About Football Express UK

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans had to endure a pretty quiet January transfer window. However, they signed Hayao Kawabe, Chiquinho and Jeung Sang-bin in this window where they have loaned out Adama Traore to Barcelona.

Meanwhile, among those incoming, only one stayed at Molineux. Kawabe and Jeung have joined the Swiss side Grasshopper on loan. And Chiquinho will be given a run with the first-team squad to settle down in the new surroundings.

Despite the lack of signing from Bruno Lage’s side, most importantly they have managed to keep their star man Ruben Neves in the squad. The 24-years-old has been the catalyst of the Wolves’ impressive display this season which caught the attention of Manchester United. As the Old Trafford club were linked with a move for the Portugal international.

How far Wolverhampton can go in this season despite almost no incoming in this January transfer window?

Bruno Lage has started brilliantly in his first season in the Premier League. As the Wolves are currently eighth in the table with 34 points in 21 games. Only four points behind the fourth-placed Manchester United with a game in hand.

The Portuguese’s side is currently enjoying an unbeaten streak in all competitions over the past few weeks. As they are unbeaten in their last six games, coming away victorious in five of those games. Manchester United have lost to the Wolves at home and Chelsea also failed to beat the Molineux side during this period.

Meanwhile, Manchester City and Liverpool also had to work very hard in order to earn all three points against the Wolves. Pep Guardiola’s side defeated Lage’s side at Etihad Stadium with the help of a controversial penalty. And the Reds came away victorious thanks to a late goal from Divock Origi.

Although Wolverhampton Wanderers have struggled to score goals this season, they are the second-best team in the league defensively. As they have conceded only 16 goals in 21 games in the league.

So, it will be interesting to see how far Bruno Lage can take his side this season. The Champions League position is in sight at the moment for the Molineux club and if they can continue performing like they have done so far this season. Then they can challenge for the Champions League spot or maybe for the Europa League spot at least.
