Chelsea looking to snatch Varane from Manchester United

About Football Express UK

As per the report in Marca, Chelsea are showing interest in signing Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane in this summer transfer window.

The Frenchman joined the La Liga giants back in 2011 from the French side Lens for £9 million. The teenager has had a stellar career since, winning four Champions League, three League titles and a Copa del Rey. After achieving everything with Los Blancos the Frenchman is open to leaving the club this summer.

The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Spanish capital. And Manchester United were mentioned as the possible destination for the World champion. However, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have also entered the race as per the Spanish report.

After winning the UEFA Champions League last season, the Blues are looking to reinforce their squad to battle for the league title with the reigning champions Manchester City. Varane would make Thomas Tuchel’s team’s defence unbreakable.

Can Chelsea sign Varane this summer?

According to the report in Marca, Raphael Varane is planning his future away from Santiago Bernabeu. The defender has not answered back the contract proposal that Real have offered.

Meanwhile, the report further claims that Chelsea, Manchester United and PSG are exploring the possibility of signing Raphael Varane this summer. After understanding the defender’s stance, Los Blancos are looking to sell their star this summer.

Signing Varane will provide depth in defence for Chelsea. Thomas Tuchel implemented back three system last season and he will be looking to do the same next season. The 28-year-old will be a very good addition to the Blues defence as their main leader in defence Thiago Silva is 36-year-old and struggled with injuries last season.

However, Chelsea needs a prolific goal scorer this summer more than Raphael Varane, after Timo Werner failed to live up to the occasion in his debut season. A new centre-forward has become an absolute necessity for Tuchel’s side. The Blues have identified Erling Braut Haaland as their number one target to fill the void. But it will not be easy to land him this summer.
