As per the report in Sky Sports Germany, Chelsea are tempted to cash in on Timo Werner or include him in a swap deal with Borussia Dortmund to sign Erling Braut Haaland.
The Blues bought the German international last summer from RB Leipzig for around £47.7 million, after beating Liverpool in the race. The 25-year-old left Germany last season before the end of the campaign to gel with the squad. And thus, settle down quickly.
However, after starting the season promisingly, things did not go smoothly for the former Stuttgart man. He has lost confidence in front of the goal and missed quite a lot of easy opportunities. Nevertheless, the forward was useful for his team with his blistering pace which helped Chelsea to lift the second Champions League title.
Thomas Tuchel’s side are exploring the possibility of signing a new centre-forward this summer. And Borussia Dortmund man Erling Braut Haaland is at the top of the wishlist. Dortmund are firm on their demands as they do not want to lose their star this summer after selling Jadon Sancho to Manchester United.
Will Chelsea sell Werner this summer?
According to the report in Sky Sports Germany, Chelsea are offering Timo Werner to other clubs to understand the market for the forward. The English club want to sign Haaland from Dortmund this summer. And they tried to include the former Leipzig man but BVB was not entertained by this offer.
The report further claims that Chelsea are not desperate to offload Werner this summer. As the forward was a very important part of the Blues system, despite his lack of goals. Tuchel wants to use the forward behind a centre-forward or out wide.
The London club undeniably need a proper centre forward this summer to challenge for the Premier League title next season. After winning the Champions League last season, Tuchel will be looking to win the league title next season. As it is uncertain if he fails to win the title will he remain Chelsea boss or not, given the club’s reputation to sack managers.
However, Chelsea should not sell Werner after just one season. The debut season in the Premier League is always tough for the players who come from abroad. And they require at least one season to understand the intensity of the league.
