Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to sign Southampton forward Danny Ings, as per the report in The Telegraph.
After injury disrupted a few seasons at Anfield, the 28-year-old went to Southampton on loan back in 2018 before making the move permanently in the following season for £20 million. The forward has found his feet at the Saint Mary’s Stadium since.
The Englishman made 91 appearances in all competitions for the Saints over the three years. Thus, scoring 41 goals in this process. He has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League during his time at Saint Mary’s Stadium.
Spurs are looking for a new centre-forward, following the future of Harry Kane is uncertain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo the north London club will play a different brand of football that fans have witnessed at Wolverhampton. Moreover, a prolific centre forward is an absolute necessity for the Portuguese’s system.
Tottenham in the race for Southampton forward Danny Ings:
According to the report in The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Southampton forward Danny Ings in this summer transfer window. The England international has turned down a four-year contract extension at the Saint Mary’s Stadium.
The report further claims that the 28-year-old is looking to step forward in his career and will not be entertained by any offers from the Saints. Spurs’ new manager wants Harry Kane to remain at the club and will be partnered with his fellow countryman.
Meanwhile, the Portuguese need prolific strikers in his system to succeed which was visible last season at the Molineux Stadium. Following the injury of Raúl Jiménez, Wolves struggled throughout the season in Premier League. So, regardless of the Kane situation, Spurs will require a number nine this summer.
Nuno likes to implement the 3-5-2 formation which will require two centre forwards. Son could also be partnered up top alongside one of the strikers. So, it will be interesting to see which brand of football Spurs will play next season.
The north Londoners will want their team to play expansive, attacking football but that will not be the case under Nuno. So, it will be interesting to see how fans will react as they will be allowed to enter from the start of the next season. Lining up Kane and Ings would make Tottenham a very strong attacking force next season.
