Euro 2020: Team of the tournament

About Football Express UK

The Euro 2020 campaign has come to an end with a second European triumph for Italy. England had the opportunity to break the curse of major tournament misery but they fell short on penalties.

Having failed to qualify for the World Cup 2018, Italy have reinforced their authority in world football. Roberto Mancini’s side are playing fearless football and in the upcoming world cup, they are the team who could lift their fifth World Cup with this mentality.

Following the curtain of the European Championship, we are going to create the team of the tournament and there are names who could become a big star Players in the upcoming season.

Euro 2020 team of the tournament:

Goalkeeper:

Gianluigi Donnarumma: The Italian shot-stopper was named the player of the tournament which is not usual to see a goalkeeper lifting this trophy but with his performance this time around, he completely deserves it.

Defender:

Denzel Dumfries(RB): The PSV Eindhoven defender was excellent until Netherlands were in the competition. He went forward fearlessly and also scored two goals in four games in this championship.

Leonardo Bonucci(CB): The veteran has been an ever-present figure for Roberto Mancini. He scored only one goal in this tournament but it was the most important one.

Harry Maguire(CB): He was one of the best defenders in this European Championship. The most expensive defender showed his defensive qualities in the knock-out stages and also scored one against Ukraine.

Luke Shaw(LB): The Manchester United man has found his old self for whom the Red Devils splashed cash on. He scored once in the final and also assisted three times throughout the tournament, despite not being selected in the opening game.

Midfielder:

Jorginho(CDM): The Brazil-born Italian is the main driving force for the Italians. His importance was clearly visible when Spain restricted him from playing his free-flowing passes. But still, he managed to be effective in the game and one of the best midfielders in Euro 2020.

Paul Pogba(CM): The Frenchman had one of his best tournaments at an individual level. He was disciplined, worked hard, scored eye-catching goals and also assisted with excellent through balls from deep.

Declan Rice(CM): The English midfielder was one of the reasons for Gareth Southgate’s side to reach the final. He protected the backline excellently, played good passes from back to front and also showed his tenacity in this competition.

Forward:

Cristiano Ronaldo(LW): He is one of the highest scorers in this competition with five goals and the highest goal contributor with six. The Portuguese maestro is still showing his fitness and qualities at the highest level at the age of 36.
