Lautaro Martínez gave a crucial lead for La Albiceleste early in the game. However, Colombia came back into the game in the second half thanks to the goal from Luis Diaz. Thus, the game went straight into the penalty after 90 minutes and Argentina won it by 3-2.

Moreover, with this result, Lionel Scaloni’s side will encounter Tite’s Brazil in the final of Copa America 2021. In addition, we will be able to witness the battle between Messi and Neymar on Saturday night.

Argentina 1-1 Colombia team news:

Scaloni went with a 4-3-3 formation and made two changes from the previous game against Ecuador. Nicolas Tagliafico started the game on the left-back in place of Marcus Acuña and Guido Rodríguez was in the central defensive midfield position ahead of Leandro Paredes.

Reinaldo Rueda Rivera went with a pragmatic 4-4-2 formation and made only one change from the previous game against Uruguay. Juan Cuadrado started on the right-wing and Luis Muriel had to sit out on the bench.

Argentina 1-1 Colombia Post-match analysis:

Argentina got a dream start, they went ahead when the clock didn’t even reach the seven minutes mark. Lionel Messi’s lay off brilliantly finished by Martínez.

It was a pretty even game as La Albiceleste tried to sit tight and not concede anything. On the other hand, Colombia had to ditch their pragmatic approach after conceding an early goal.

However, Colombia eventually got the equaliser in the second half thanks to a brilliant goal from Luis Diaz. Moreover, Edwin Cordona’s pass was excellently put away by the winger from an acute angle.

Argentina had a great opportunity to go ahead in the game against Colombia after Angel Di Maria created a great chance but the Inter Milan forward failed to score as it cleared brilliantly off the line.

The game went straight into the shoot-out after finishing 1-1 in the 90 minutes. Lionel Messi, Paredes and Martínez converted their penalties but Rodrigo De Paul blasted his kick over the crossbar.

Meanwhile, Juan Cuadrado and Miguel Borja scored for Colombia in the shoot-out and the other three kicks were saved by Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez.

Notable Performances:

Lionel Messi: Assisted the goal and also created two big chances. He made five key passes which show his influence in the game. The Barcelona man converted the penalty beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.

Lautaro Martínez: Scored the first goal and should have scored the second goal. In the end, his goal from the penalty helped Argentina to win this encounter.

Luis Díaz: Scored an excellent goal, despite losing his balance. He was by far the best Colombian on the pitch.
