Meanwhile, Reinaldo Rueda Rivera went with a pragmatic 4-4-2 formation. David Ospina started between the sticks, Yerry Mina and Davinson Sánchez were at the heart of the defence. Luis Muriel and Duvan Zapata led the game for Los Cafeteros.

Uruguay 0-0 Colombia Post-match analysis:

The game never reached its highest standards as both teams tried to stay compact and keep a clean sheet. The defences of both sides were rigid and unbeatable. Neither side managed to create any big chances throughout the game.

In the first half, Uruguay only made one attempt but it was off target. On the other hand, Zapata has troubled La Celeste defence several times with his speed and strength.

Both teams had good moments to score goals but they were not enough to find the back of the net. The Atalanta forward had the best chance of the game, his head was brilliantly saved by Fernando Muslera.

After the game finished 0-0 in regulation time, the game went straight into the penalty. Colombia converted all four of their kicks and Uruguay missed the second and the fourth kick.

Notable Performances:

David Ospina: The Napoli goalkeeper lost the flight of the ball once but in tie-breaker made two crucial saves.

Duvan Zapata: He was the biggest threat to Uruguayan defence. Made strong runs and almost scored a goal. In the end, converted the spot-kick as well.

Yerry Mina: Stayed solid in defence, won every aerial challenge and also scored from the spot to help his team to secure a place in the semi-final.
