Arsenal sign a new midfielder Lokonga, claims Fabrizio Romano

About Football Express UK

As per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have signed Belgian midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga from the Pro League side RSC Anderlecht.

The 21-year-old has showcased his talent last season for the Belgian side and caught the attention of big clubs. He made 33 appearances in the league, scoring three goals and assisting two times from midfield.

Former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry personally urged the north London club to sign the highly-rated midfielder. Anderlecht manager Vincent Kompany has also praised the 21-year-old.

Following Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira are linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium and Mateo Guendouzi has already left the club. The Gunners need new signings in midfield and Lokonga certainly can be a good fit for Arsenal.

Arsenal secure the second signing of the summer in the figure of Lokonga:

According to Romano, Arsenal and Anderlecht have agreed on the deal in principle for Lokonga. The north London club will have to pay €17.5 million initial fees and bonuses are included as well.

The Italian further claims that Lokonga will sign a five-year contract with Arsenal until 2026 and the deal will be official after the midfielder finishes his quarantine period. The 21-year-old had two offers from Italy but his number one priority was to join the Premier League club.

The north London club announced Nuno Tavares as the first signing of the summer on Saturday morning. The Gunners paid around €8 million for the left-back to sign him from SL Benfica. The youngster will be the backup to Kieran Tierney at the Emirates Stadium.

The young midfielder can become an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s system. But, he will need time to settle down in different environments and a very competitive league. The 21-year-old has all the attributes to become a world-class midfielder. But, the Gunners fans should not be impatient with the Belgian.

Arsenal have signed Lokonga and are looking to sign young and talented players who will be cheap as well. Given the current situation of the club, that is a perfect way forward. Arteta has shown his quality to develop young players and bringing new young faces will benefit the club in future.
