Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta is willing to sell Takehiro Tomiyasu to a suitable club. Italian giants Inter Milan is apparently prepared to submit a bid for the Arsenal defender. Last year, the Japan international battled with injuries, which cost him his spot in the starting XI for the Gunners. He will likely drop further down the pecking order with the fact that Jurrien Timber has arrived.
Arsenal to sell their Japanese full back Takehiro Tomiyasu
Tomiyasu earned just six starts overall last season, which is a considerable drop from the 20 he made the year before. Therefore, Tomiyasu may benefit greatly from moving away from Arsenal. As he previously excelled in the Serie A with Bologna, he would be accepting to joining Inter. He will get to play as a regular right back there and prove his abilities well.
Several players are up for sale at Arsenal. One player they are open to selling is Folarin Balogun, as well as Jorginho and perhaps Thomas Partey. Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Timber cost the London club a lot of money. Therefore they must sell a few players before approving any other significant incomings. Tomiyasu can now apparently be included to that list. Ben White and Timber, who are both capable of playing right wing, provide Arsenal with more than enough backup for the Japanese right-back.
Tomiyasu to succeed Skriniar in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system
According to the Italian publication Corriere della Sera, Inter intends to make a deal for Tomiyasu around €20 million. However, given that Arsenal will only consider offers in the range of €35 million (about £30.2 million) for the right-back, that seems doubtful to be enough. After losing Milan Skriniar to Paris Saint-Germain, Inter are anxious to sign a new right-centre back this summer. Thus manager Simone Inzaghi thinks Tomiyasu has a good potential. But whether they can reach an agreement with Arsenal is still up in the air.
According to other reports Arsenal wants Nicolo Barella from Inter Milan, Arsenal proposed a swap agreement involving Folarin Balogun and Takehiro Tomiyasu. However Inter is in no mood to accept the offer in expense of their most valuable asset. But they can sign Tomiyasu paying €30 million.
The versatile defender’s position is typically right-back. He can, however, also play a more significant role at the centre of the backline. He would most likely play as a right center-back in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system. Skriniar used to play this position at Inter and the Japanese is likely to succceed him.
