Ruben Dias is apparently among one of Manchester City’s key players, according to Rodri. Together, they won the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League. Thereby finishing off their most recent season at the Etihad Stadium with a grand success. The midfielder has been discussing the importance of the defender as the upcoming Premier League season approaches.
Rodri cites the impact of Ruben Dias’ absence on the team
In a recent episode of the Official Man City Podcast, Rodri mentioned about Dias and the impact his absence had on the group.
The Spanish midfielder said:
“I think he had a period before the World Cup and a bit after he didn’t participate much in the team. It’s true that when he’s not in the team we lose a bit of character and leadership he brings to the team.”
“I think to win trophies and to be consistent and never lose the focus and never lose the mentality, he’s one of the most important players.”
“Of course, we have a squad of 24, 25 players and they all deserve to play and they are all important in their way. But Ruben is special in this way, that’s why he’s one of the captains.”
When Dias was out from 12 Premier League games, City won six, drew two, and lost four of them. They kept only three clean sheets and allowing a total of 12 goals to be conceded. This demonstrates how vulnerable Pep Guardiola’s club can be defensively when the Portuguese international is absent from the lineup. The fact that the 26-year-old completed more clearances (56) than any other City player during the season. This shows just how valuable a defensive asset he is to the team.
Considering everything mentioned above, it is certain why Rodri has cited Dias as one of the squad’s most crucial players. Rodri is correct claiming that his absence will have a negative impact on the defence of the team. Looking ahead to the forthcoming season, the center-back will undoubtedly give the UCL winners a solid opportunity to become triumphant again this time around. However he must play as many games as he can to keep City in the title race.
