Liverpool ‘rekindles interest’ for signing Khephren Thuram

About Football Express UK

Khephren Thuram, a defensive midfielder for OGC Nice, might potentially be chosen by Liverpool over Romeo Lavia as Southampton continue to demand £50 million for the youngster. Following a new report indicating Liverpool rekindle their interest in Khephren Thuram, Liverpool might not sign Lavia. The Reds’ most recent bid, which the Saints rejected for £46 million, might have been the final straw. It seems strange for Liverpool to decide to end talks with Southampton after three weeks after they are so close for striking a deal, unless they believe the Frenchman has greater potential than Lavia. The Northern Echo claimed in June that Nice value Thuram at £60 million. However Thuram fulfils all the qualities that are required for the no.6 role. Additionally making up for Lavia’s lack of physicality.

Liverpool enters the race for signing Thuram again

Thuram now appears destined to stay in Ligue 1 with Nice for the upcoming season. But FC Inter News reports that the Reds continue to be in the hunt for the French international, along with Inter Milan and Juventus. Thuram was hailed as a “phenomenal” player by French football analyst Jonathan Johnson. The Frenchman was on Liverpool’s radar all summer following a poor campaign last season.

The midfielder’s £60 million valuation by Nice this window, however, appears to have played a big role in the sharp decline in interest in the player. The Reds might now again enter the picture, though. The Reds have had a great deal of difficulty adding a third defensive midfielder this summer. Romeo Lavia is still not on the verge of joining Liverpool. The Reds were unsuccessful in landing Lavia despite making three bids for the Southampton player.

Both Lavia and Thuram fit Liverpool’s playing style. However if Liverpool can grab Thuram under £50 million, it would be a great bargain. But as things stand now, Liverpool still wants Lavia in their holding midfielder role. But for that, they must give an additional £5 million with their third bid amount. Several Pundits advised the Reds not to give away such an amount for the inexperienced belgian midfielder. Thus only time will give us a clear picture of whom Liverpool signs this summer.
