Gary Neville believes in Nicolas Jackson and backs him

About Football Express UK

Gary Neville has defended Chelsea’s 22 year old striker Nicolas Jackson

Although Nicolas Jackson has not had a very good season, Neville thinks it should not be considered as failure. Ex-Manchester United right back thinks Jackson has done pretty well in his debut season at England. Jackson has scored 13 goals in 39 appearances for Chelsea. This may not be a good stat for a striker, Jackson can definately evolve and develop with time.

Jackson missed some easy chances against Manchester City in FA cup semi final. Due to this Chelsea fans are upset with him. The inconsistency in scoring may not earn Jackson spot as a regular starter but Neville believes he can play a crucial role as a backup striker. Playing first season in premier league at such an young age can be challenging but Jackson has managed to score 10 goals. Reaching double figures is still an achievement and should be definately praised.

“I think he has a lot to offer. He’s a young player” – Gary Neville about Senegalese international according to football london.

Neville shows faith in 22 year old striker and definately thinks he is not the problem. Although Jackson is not a first choice striker, he scored 13 goals in total for the blues which is a decent start as backup striker. Having second choice striker who achieves double figures is a key component for any team to be successful. Chelsea can use a proper striker who scores consistently having Jackson as his backup will resolve the issue.

Neville also talked about Chelsea’s future and what they should plan

According to Neville, Chelsea definately need some good quality signings. He said they don’t need to many but just 2-3 experienced ones. Young talents are good but in pressure matches you do need some experienced leaders. Neville adds that they need three positions to be filled and fast – striker, centre back and goalkeeper. Signing of centre back now seems to be Chelsea’s top priority as Thiago Silva is set to leave at the end of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino shows faith in his young striker

Pochettino backs Nicolas Jackson. He thinks Jackson is doing good and his willingness to help the team should be praised. According to Pochettino, Jackson had a huge burden on his shoulders. With the first choice strikers injured, Jackson was unable to recieve proper rest he deserved. Arriving from Spain, adapting the new environment and new league, starting continuously and also playing in African cup in between were the conditions Jackson had to deal with. Managing all that and still giving efforts for team’s best is something praiseworthy according to Pochettino.
