“Full agreement”- Fabrizio Romano provides an update on Crystal Palace’s target

About Football Express UK

Crystal Palace are on the verge to sign West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a free this summer.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the keeper has reached full agreement with Crystal Palace over a move to Selhurst Park.

Johnstone is set to be a free agent on July 1 and the Eagles are looking to secure a four-year deal with the player. Palace were interested in Johnstone earlier this month but the negotiations only took place last week.

Starting his career with Manchester United, Johnstone was not fortunate enough to get a regular spot in the first team. The 29-year-old moved to numerous clubs on a series of loan stints to gain experience.

However, his major breakthrough season came with West Brom after showcasing his terrific form in a rather struggling side. With 167 appearances, Johnstone was awarded the club’s players’ player of the year in the 2020/21 Premier League season.

A Reasonable Buy for Crystal Palace

The Eagles will be securing the services of the West Brom keeper for free this summer. The move appears to be a decent buy as the club did require reinforcement in the keeper’s position.

Moreover, the Englishman has been fighting for a place as a regular in the clubs he has played for. This includes getting a chance with the national team after impressing Gareth Southgate with his performances with West Brom.

Moreover, the inclusion of Sam Johnstone will see Jack Butland drop down the pecking order. Adding depth in the keeper’s position has been a good move.

Also, Vicente Guaita will have a strong contender in Johnstone for the regular spot next season. With no fee involved and given his experience in the Premier League, the club’s signing has been a good one.
