Donny van de Beek wants to fight for the first-team places at Manchester United

About Football Express UK

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United midfielder, Donny van de Beek wants to fight for the first-team places at Old Trafford next season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side bought the 24-years-old last summer from Ajax Amsterdam for £35 million. The midfielder made 36 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring just a solitary goal. However, most of his appearances came off the bench and he had very little time to impress.

Few reports started that the Norwegian boss wanted Jack Grealish last summer, but, the club management went for the Dutch midfielder as a cheaper alternative. Solskjaer’s overreliance on Fred and Scott McTominey has reduced Donny’s first-team opportunities. However, when he got the chance, he showed his quality. But still, the United boss does not fancy the former Ajax man in his starting eleven.

Following a disappointing debut season for van de Beek with Manchester United, speculations were coming out that the midfielder will be sold this summer. However, the 24-years-old has wiped out any doubts regarding his future.

Van de Beek wants to stay at Manchester United:

As per the report in MEN, Donny van de Beek has turned down the opportunity to leave Manchester United this summer after enduring a tough season at the Old Trafford. Clubs from Serie A, La Liga and Bundesliga have shown interest in signing the Dutchman. But he wants to stay in Premier League and is ready to prove his worth next season.

It is quite natural to struggle in the Premier League in the first season after arriving from abroad. Now it will be interesting to see how van de Beek will perform next season for Manchester United.

The reports are suggesting that Solskjaer is willing to change his system from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3 next season. And this will give the Dutchman much more opportunity to showcase his talent at his preferred box-to-box role.

Donny van de Beek is a very talented player and it will be a shame for the Manchester United boss if he fails to bring the best out of the midfielder. He is technically gifted, very discipline in passing and also can chip in some important goals from the deep. This season will be a now or never situation for the Dutchman.
