De Gea wanted to part ways with Manchester United

About Football Express UK

According to the report in The Athletic, Manchester United goalkeeper, David De Gea was considering leaving the club after the Europa League final debacle.

The 30-year-old joined the Red Devils back in 2011 from Atlético de Madrid for £22.5 million. Since then he had become an unshakable presence between the sticks. However, after signing a hefty contract with the club, the Spaniard has lost his way a bit. And the keeper started showing errors in his game which are very unlikely for him.

After a few bad seasons, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has brought in Dean Henderson to challenge De Gea for the first team place. However, this situation did not help either of those keepers. The appearances have reduced for both of them. And Henderson has expressed the mental pressure he had to go through with this situation.

The 30-year-old keeper started the last season as the number one. But, his parental leave allowed Henderson to earn regular first-team actions and showcase his talent in the Premier League

De Gea considered leaving Manchester after Europa League loss:

The Athletic claimed that De Gea was looking to leave Manchester United immediately after the Europa League final defeat against Villarreal. The goalkeeper was heavily criticised for failing to save any of the eleven taken penalty kicks and missing his subsequent kick.

However, the 30-year-old regathered his thoughts after some time and decided to stay in Manchester. The goalkeeper’s whopping £375,000 per week salary will be one of the stumbling blocks for Solskjaer’s side to offload the keeper this summer.

Manchester United immediately need to sort out the goalkeeping position. David De Gea and Dean Henderson should not have kept in the squad from last season. And it has caused damage for both of their careers. If it continues to go on like this next season, it might create a dressing room unrest.

So, with staying active in the transfer market, Solskjaer has to sort out the goalkeeping situation this summer. It will be very hard for Manchester United to offload or loan out De Gea this summer given his financial package. So, loaning out Henderson will be the right decision for the Red Devils this summer.
