Barcelona offer Griezmann to Manchester United

About Football Express UK

As per the report in Sport, Barcelona have offered their star forward Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United amid their financial difficulties.

The 30-year-old joined the Catalan giants back in 2019 for £108 million. However, the deal hasn’t panned out as the Spanish side would like it to be. The Frenchman was given a whopping €45 million per year in salary which made him extremely expensive.

Having struggled to cope with the pandemic, the Blaugrana have gone for plenty of free transfers. However, they are not able to register players for their financial situation as they will need to offload players before registering the new signing Memphis Depay.

Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid were trying to make a swap deal involving Griezmann and Saul Niguez. However, the huge salary of Griezmann and the Catalan giants’ demand for a transfer fee has stalled the deal.

Will Griezmann join Manchester United this summer:

According to Sport, Barcelona have offered Griezmann to Manchester United and Chelsea who are looking for a centre-forward this summer. Juventus are also monitoring the situation and are interested in the Frenchman.

Barcelona are in a big financial crisis this summer. Lionel Messi, whose contract with the Blaugrana has finished at the end of June is yet to sign a contract extension with the club. Currently, the best player in the world is without a club.

The Catalan giants will not be available to sign Messi without offloading one of their stars like Phillipe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele(currently injured) or Antoine Griezmann. The Blaugrana will have to remove one of them from the wage bill to sign the Argentine. At this point of time, it looks very difficult to find suitors for these players.

Currently, Manchester United do not need Griezmann. The Red Devils are looking for a new midfielder and a defender. 30-year-old Griezmann with a huge financial burden does not make any sense for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
