Arsenal 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers: the Gunners player ratings

Arsenal Team

Arsenal beat top-four rival Wolverhampton Wanderers by 2-1 in a crucial Premier League encounter on Thursday at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners started the game slowly and found themselves trailing at the interval courtesy of the contribution from Hwang Hee-Chan. Gabriel Magalhães made a bad error which led to the goal.

The second half substitute Nicolas Pepe equalized the game for the hosts on the 82nd minute before Alexandre Lacazette’s shot went in deflected off the Wolves keeper Jose Sa at the dying embers of the game.

Following this victory, Arsenal moved up to fifth place with 45 points in 24 games, one point behind the fourth-placed Manchester United with two games in hand.

Arsenal player ratings against Wolverhampton Wanderers:

Aaron Ramsdale – 6/10

He had a pretty comfortable night apart from conceding the goal.

Cedric Soares – 6/10

Wasn’t a great display from him before being substituted.

Ben White – 6/10

He was taking too long to progress the ball from the back which allowed the opposition to get back in shape.

Gabriel Magalhães – 5/10

Made a very bad error and could have conceded another before the second.

Kieran Tierney – 6/10

Didn’t manage to contribute going forward but it will be concerning for the north Londoners that he sustained an injury at the death.

Thomas Partey – 7/10

Controlled the midfield and did well defensively as well.

Granit Xhaka – 6.5/10

Was given an advanced role in this encounter and did well.

Martin Odegaard – 7/10

Displayed an energetic performance and created a few opportunities for the forward players.

Bukayo Saka – 6.5/10

Looked dangerous on the right but lacked the final pass.

Gabriel Martinelli – 6/10

Worked hard for his team but the Gunners fans will be hoping to get more output going forward from the Brazilian.

Alexandre Lacazette – 7.5/10

Played like a leader and worked hard off the ball. Made a telling contribution to the goal but unfortunately, it was created as own goal.

Substitute:

Nicolas Pepe – 7/10

Scored the equaliser and showed some glimpses of becoming a crucial part of the team for the rest of the season.

Eddie Nketiah – 6.5/10

Did well after coming on from the bench and assisted the first goal.

Nuno Tavares – N/A

Didn’t have enough time to influence the game.
