Report: 22-year-old defender set to extend contract with Chelsea

Chelsea defender Reece James will extend stay with the West London club as a contract extension appears around the corner.

The English international will put pen to paper as the defender has an agreement in place for an extension.  Earlier in the transfer window, James was linked with a move to clubs across Europe this summer.

With Manchester City and Real Madrid keenly interested in securing his services, the deal eventually failed to go through. Now, the defender will stay with the club for a few more years giving joy to the fans of Chelsea.

Reece James will extend contract with Chelsea

As per the current deal, James was earning in the region of £80,000 a week during his stay with the club. Moreover, it was James who decided to speak with the club and discuss a new contract to stay with Chelsea.

Speaking in an interview about the club’s ambitions for the new season, James said-

“It’s an exciting time. Not much changes from the players or the management point of view.

Our aim is still the same to win every competition we’re in and win every game,”

“There’s no reason why we can’t do that. For sure last season we had a lot of injuries.

Myself and a lot of other players had long spells out. Around Christmas time we were top of the table and injuries affected us a lot.

“This season if our team can stay fit and healthy there’s no reason we can’t be in and around it again.”

Chelsea have had a mixed start to their camping with a lot to work upon in order to compete. However, James’ contract extension will surely give the club and fans a major boost for many more seasons.
