Manchester United 1-0 Aston Villa: the Red Devils player ratings

About Football Express UK

Player ratings: Despite producing a disappointing performance at home against Aston Villa, Manchester United beat Steven Gerrard’s side by 1-0 in the F.A Cup third round fixture.

The Red Devils started the game well and got the lead before the interval. Scott McTominay scored the only goal of the game. But, the second half display was very disappointing from Ralf Rangnick’s side and the visitors could have easily won the game.

The Villains scored twice in the second half and on both occasions, the goal was disallowed due to offside. Meanwhile, following this victory, the Red Devils have now reached the fourth round of the F.A Cup and they will welcome Middlesbrough in that fixture in February.

Manchester United player ratings against Aston Villa:

David De Gea – 7/10

The Spaniard almost single-handedly kept his side in the game and made a few big saves on either side of both halves.

Diogo Dalot – 6/10

The Portuguese displayed a solid performance and is also showing signs to establish himself as a starter for Rangnick’s side.

Victor Lindelof – 6/10

Returned to action after recovering from Covid-19 and displayed a productive performance.

Raphael Varane – 7/10

The Frenchman was excellent and handled Ollie Watkins quite comfortably.

Luke Shaw – 6.5/10

Displayed a very good display and showed aggression in his performance.

Scott McTominay – 7/10

Scored the match-winning goal but failed to control the midfield. But, produced a better first half than the second.

Fred – 6/10

Delivered a great cross for the goal and showed high energy. But, failed to win the midfield battle yet again.

Bruno Fernandes – 6/10

Returned to his preferred attacking midfield role. But, the performance wasn’t good enough for the Portuguese.

Marcus Rashford – 5/10

The Englishman’s struggle continues. The forward is going through a rough time and needs to find his feet very quickly.

Mason Greenwood – 6/10

He looked silky and played well. But, he needs to understand when to shoot the ball and when to pass. He has to learn the game more.

Edinson Cavani – 6/10

The Uruguayan displayed yet another tireless display but he didn’t get many services from the midfield.

Substitute:

Donny van de Beek – 6/10

It is extremely puzzling that why he can’t get more game time. He played only 18 minutes after playing only eight minutes one month ago against Norwich City. It is tough to showcase talent with so little game time.

Anthony Elanga – 6/10

Played around 10 minutes including the stoppage time and did way more positive work than Rashford did in the last few games.

Jesse Lingard – 6/10

The Englishman did not have enough time to influence the game but did well to hold the ball and press the opponent.
