Manchester United 0-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers: the Red Devils player ratings

About Football Express UK

Player ratings: After an awful performance on Monday night, Manchester United lost to Wolverhampton Wanderers by 1-0 at Old Trafford in a crucial Premier League encounter.

The visitors dominated the game against a star-stacked United side and made 14 attempts in the first half compared to the Red Devils’ four. In the end, Bruno Lage’s side took all three points courtesy of the contribution from Joao Moutinho.

Following this result, Ralf Rangnick’s side is in big trouble to finish in the top four spots. They are currently sitting in the seventh spot with 31 points in 19 games. Four points behind the fourth-placed Arsenal. On the other hand, Wolves are eight in the table with 28 points in as many games.

Manchester United player ratings against Wolverhampton Wanderers:

David De Gea(7/10)(GK):

The best player on the pitch for Manchester United. Made a few great saves in the first half to keep his side in the game. The Spaniard is continuing his great performance this season.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka(5/10)(RB):

Defensively the Englishman did his job but in the opposite half of the field, he was very poor. On several occasions, he failed to deliver a right cross from a very good position.

Phil Jones(6/10)(CB):

Started in place of injured Harry Maguire and did his job well. But, on the goal, he should have headed the ball away from the danger zone.

Raphael Varane(6.5/10)(CB):

The Frenchman was very good defensively and displayed a promising performance.

Luke Shaw(5.5/10)(LB):

Looked vulnerable since the addition of Adama Traore in the second half and failed to cope with the Spaniard in several situations.

Scott McTominay(4/10)(CDM):

Was very poor on the night and lost possession time and time again in midfield which broke the momentum on attacks and gave the opposition opportunities in transition.

Nemanja Matic(5/10)(CDM):

Lost the midfield battle and struggled to keep hold of the ball for a long period.

Mason Greenwood(6/10)(RW):

One of the better players on the night for Manchester United. But, unfortunately, was taken off at the hour mark.

Jadon Sancho(5/10)(LW):

Worked very hard off the ball but with the ball, he failed to influence the game. He is looking physically short to play in the Premier League.

Edinson Cavani(5/10)(CF):

Started as the centre forward but wasn’t impactful at all. He had a very good chance in the first half but failed to capitalise on the situation.

Cristiano Ronaldo(5/10)(CF):

The service wasn’t good enough and he failed to do his magic against a well-structured Wolves team.

Substitute:

Bruno Fernandes(5/10)(RW):

Had a great opportunity to score but failed to convert the chance. Made a good impact on the game but it wasn’t good enough.

Marcus Rashford(4.5/10)(LW):

The poor display continues from him. Looked way off the pace of the game and wasn’t good enough in front of the goal.

Anthony Elanga(N/A):

Didn’t have much time to influence the game.
