About Football Express UK

Aston Villa is reportedly eyeing a move for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard as per the report in English outlet Manchester Evening News.

The 29-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from the Old Trafford stadium in the January transfer window and Newcastle United came closest to signing the England International on the deadline day. However, the deal didn’t materialize as the club didn’t sanction the midfielder’s departure.

Meanwhile, according to the report. Following the Magpies’ failed attempt to sign Lingard in January. Aston Villa is also keeping tabs on the midfielder’s current situation with the Old Trafford club.

The Villa hierarchy is keen on helping the new manager Steven Gerrard to build a strong squad to challenge the European places next season. And they could go for the Englishman in the summer who will be available for free.

Meanwhile, after the 29-year-old failed to engineer a move away from the Old Trafford outfit. He has asked for a few days off to clear his mind up and get back to the business. However, the midfielder tweeted that the club asked him to take a break and he is ready to go back to work.

Will Lingard be a good signing for Aston Villa?

Signing Jesse Lingard will be a great acquisition for Aston Villa. However, it will not be easy for Gerrard’s side to pull this deal off. The 29-year-old will be available for free next summer. As he has rejected to extend his contract with the record Premier League champions.

However, there will be fierce competition in the summer to sign the midfielder. Newcastle United and West Ham United have already shown their interest in the player. And Given the Hammers are looking likely to finish in the European spot. And the Magpies will get stronger next season if they are to avoid relegation at the end of this campaign. Villa might find it difficult to persuade the midfielder to join the Birmingham side.

So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Jesse Lingard. The 29-year-old has struggled to find regular first-team action at the theatre of dreams. Therefore, it will be the right decision to leave the club and find a destination where he can play regularly at this stage of his career.
