Aston Villa have made an offer to land AC Milan centre-back Alessio Romagnoli this summer in the transfer window.

The 27-year-old’s contract is set to expire in a few days’ time with clubs keeping tabs for a transfer. According to Corriere dello Sport, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are in the mix to sign the defender from Milan.

However, Italian club Lazio were already the first entrant in the race to make a swoop for Romagnoli. That said, it appears as though a move to Villa Park may be a real possibility this summer.

Reports, as relayed in Italian media, have the idea that Villa have a very ‘good chance’ of signing the centre-back.

Aston Villa to make their fifth signing?

Steven Gerrard’s Villa could make their fifth signing possible with the inclusion of Alessio Romagnoli in the transfer window.

Gerrard has signed Diego Carlos, Robin Olsen, Boubacar Kamara, and Phillipe Coutinho on a permanent deal for the next season. The gaffer’s transfer engines are running at a full-throttle and it seems as though there could be more signings.

Now with Romagnoli, Aston Villa would make yet another important signing that could prove vital in the next season. The centre-back has made 247 appearances during his stint with the Serie A champions.

Moreover, a move to the Premier League could mean that he would be ready to take the competition by storm. The experience he boasts coupled with his abilities could be just the profile Gerrard would require in his squad.

With no fee required to pay the Rossoneri, Villa will have made another wise decision after Boubacar Kamara’s transfer. However, with other clubs also involved in the race to sign the defender, it remains to be seen what transpires.
