Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City- HERE WE GO!

About Football Express UK

Manchester City have reached personal terms with Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips for a transfer fee in the region of £45m.

City are set to make their third signing in Kalvin Phillips after the transfers of Erling Haaland and Julián Álvarez. The Leeds midfielder will look to fill the void after the exit of the Sky Blues legend Fernandinho.

Phillips was linked to a number of clubs in the English top-flight this summer. However, he turned down all approaches from other clubs to don the blue jersey of Manchester next season.

Moreover, City boss Pep Guardiola wanted to add a new name to his midfield, and in came the Leeds ace as a target. Phillips will join the Sky Blues camp this summer for a fee of around £45m-£50m with add-ons.

What can Phillips bring to Manchester City?

Phillips is set to leave his boyhood club this summer to join a heavy-weight club to compete for titles next season.

At the Elland Road club, the midfielder demonstrated impressive skills with the ball proving to be a vital player. Moreover, with Phillips’ inclusion in the squad, Leeds conceded an average of 1.3 goals per game to 2.4 without him.

However, City’s midfield seems congested which could mean that the Leeds ace may not get a regular spot. Moreover, Rodri appears in fantastic form in the holding midfield which may seem tricky to displace him from the position.

That said, the Leeds midfielder’s numbers could give Rodri a good run for his money. Since the 2020/21 campaign, the Leeds midfielder has a better efficiency as compared with Rodri in the last two seasons.

In 90 minutes, Phillips has 2.86 tackles, 1.54 ball interceptions, and a passing rate of 28.02 in every game. While Rodri’s numbers tally at 2.3, 1.02, and 20.99 passing rates in every match.

However, Rodri seems to have found his rhythm but Phillips would do everything to cement his spot as a regular.

All in all, City appears to be building a dynamic side with big-game players this summer. The club will officially announce the transfer of Phillips to the Etihad soon.
