The Brazilian played every minute of the last Premier League season for Pep Guardiola’s team. That means across 24 games, recording eight clean sheets and giving up 24 goals in the process.

Due to his inability to maintain a clean sheet since City’s 3-0 victory against Wolves exactly one month ago, the 29-year-old has been under scrutiny. One journalist in particular has taken to social media to express his opinions on the goalie.

Lee noted that City had given up from their first shot on target in each of their previous four games. Which has happened 10 times in the Premier League so far this season in his initial Twitter post. This also featured a story he wrote for The Athletic on Ederson.

In a following tweet, the journalist had this to say about City’s goalkeeper.

He said: “My overall conclusion is that Ederson is brilliant. His shot-stopping is good, his sweeping up is good, his kicking, decisions on the ball, ability on crosses/command of area is top-tier (in my opinion). At the moment he’s struggling a bit, like several City players have.”

Ederson stats for Man City this season are not up to the par

Ederson has faced 56 shots on goal so far this season. He has stopped 33 of them, giving him a save percentage of 62.5%, third-lowest in the entire division.

Despite this discouraging figure, the Brazil international has nonetheless demonstrated his mastery of other aspects of goalkeeping.

For instance, he currently has the fourth-highest pass completion percentage in the league (40.6%) after completing 71 of the 175 launched passes he has tried.

Moreover, Ederson now has the fifth-highest cross-stopping percentage (8.6%) in the league after stopping 16 of the 186 crosses that came into his area.

Even though he doesn’t make as many saves as some other goalkeepers in the top flight, Guardiola has praised him for his ability to pass the ball with his feet, making it obvious why he is so crucial for City.
