Julian Alvarez, the 24 yr old Argentine forward wants to leave his current club Manchester City.
Manchester City value Alvarez at around £80M by and could possibly let him go this summer. Atletico are looking to secure a loan move for the striker with an obligation to buy him for £70M next summer.
Julian Alvarez spent the second half of the last season in the bench and usually came on as Haaland’s substitute. He racked up a total of 32 goal contributions across all competitions during the absence of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne. It’s hard to shine while playing second fiddle to Haaland but Alvarez made quite an impact during his limited minutes in the field and contributed to Manchester City title win. His quality is undeniable and Atletico will look to secure his services during this transfer window.
Manchester City substitute Alvarez will be a perfect fit for Atletico Madrid
Alvaro Morata has just completed his transfer to Italian giants AC Milan. Atletico Madrid, having lost their best striker are in the looks to bring new replacements.
Atletico are in talks with Villareal Striker Alexander Sørloth and Girona’s Artem Dovbyk. They are the top options for a new striker after Morata’s departure.
But the club officials have labeled Alvarez as a perfect fit for the club. Diego Simeone wants Alvarez to be the next superstar and wants him for the long haul going forward.
Alvarez is looking to leave Manchester City due to lack of playing minutes. The Spanish club are offering him a primary role in the squad and the club’s future. Alvarez has scored 36 goals and provided 18 assists in a total of 103 appearances at the club. While his goal scoring prowess is well known, his playmaking capabilities often go unnoticed. During the 2023/24 season Alvarez was mostly deployed at De Bruyne’s position by Pep Guardiola. According to Atletico Stats, Alvarez spent only 38 percent of his minutes playing as a forward. He played as an attacking midfielder with Haaland up top. Alvarez provided 8 assists, an impressive increase from zero assists during the previous season.
Atletico ideally want Alvarez to fill Griezmann’s role as the chief playmaker and creative component of the team. Antoine Griezmann, who is now 33 years old and looks relatively worn out after the euros was Atletico’s star player and difference maker in numerous fixtures throughout the years.
Alvarez is not a typical goal-scorer but can be the ideal partner to a striker up top. He can play as a second striker aiding Samu as the forward. It will be interesting to see how they pair up incase Atletico are able to pull off this nearly impossible transfer.
Can Atletico Madrid pull off this transfer?
According to Fabrizio Romano, City are unwilling to let Alvarez go out on a loan. They will look to sell him to clubs outside England.
Paris Saint-Germain are among the top names who have showed interest in signing “the spider” from Manchester City. PSG will be able to pay his transfer fee of £70M-£80M quite comfortably. They have signed Argentine forwards in the past and splash big amounts of money in each transfer windows.
Atletico will need to pull off a miracle to sign Alvarez. They are looking to boost their chances by using midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, teammate to Alvarez in the Argentina national team to convince him. It will be interesting to see how Los Colchoneros proceed in their pursuit of the Argentine forward.
