AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is reportedly on the verge of leaving for free at the end of this month and Premier League clubs are exploring the possibility of bringing the talented midfielder to England.
The Turkish playmaker was an important part of Milan’s pursuit of UEFA Champions League football for next season. The 27-year-old attacking-midfielder made 33 Serie A appearances, scoring four goals and nine assists in the process.
Calhanoglu’s contract renewal with the Rossoneri has become complicated in recent months. Stefano Pioli’s side offered €4 million per annum plus bonuses to the Turkish midfielder since January. However, the player and his representatives are asking for €5 million per year in salary which Milan are not interested in giving to the player.
This uncertainty has given a big boost to the Premier League clubs in the pursuit of Hakan Calhanoglu. Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal all are lining up a move for the creative midfielder.
Can Premier League clubs sign Calhanoglu this summer?
According to Milan News, The player and his agent had a meeting with Milan. But, the Rossoneri have clearly stated that they won’t increase the offer, take it or leave. It seems Calhanoglu will be leaving the club at the end of this month as Milan are reluctant to match the demand of the player.
The Calhanoglu situation will certainly give a big boost to the Premier League clubs. Following the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum, Liverpool are looking to buy a versatile midfielder. And who else is better than the 27-year-old Turkish to play in different roles in midfield.
Chelsea are interested in increasing their depth in the attacking midfield. Thomas Tuchel’s 3-4-2-1 formation require playmakers rather than wingers. And Calhanoglu will be a great addition to the squad for next season.
After losing out Emiliano Buendia to Premier League rival Aston Villa. Arsenal are in the market for a new attacking midfielder. They lack depth in that position as only young Emile Smith Rowe is currently available in the squad who can play there. So, if the Gunners can sign Calhanoglu for free that will be a great coup for Mikel Arteta’s side.
