Manchester City are reportedly looking to sell their Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva in the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old midfielder has been ineffective for Pep Guardiola’s side in the last couple of seasons. Even though the club have won everything but the Champions League trophy. The Portuguese arrived in Manchester with the reputation of a future star. However, apart from just one season, Silva has not lived up to his reputation.
Manchester City bought Bernardo Silva from Monaco back in 2017. The Citizens had to pay around €50 million for the talented midfielder. Over the years Silva made 201 appearances in all competitions and scored 35 goals. The midfielder’s work ethic has earned him regular first-team football under Guardiola.
Manchester City are in the market for a World-class striker following Sergio Aguero’s departure. And they’ve identified Harry Kane as the mainstay. But, City consider him too expensive, So, they are willing to sell one of the midfielders to fund the transfer budget. The Citizens have an abundance of talents in that department and it won’t cause any trouble for them.
Will Manchester City sell Silva this summer?
According to The Telegraph, the Citizens are looking to rebuild their squad this summer. The Club’s chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has stated that they are trying to find a replacement for Aguero and there will be more incomings as well.
The report also claimed that Manchester City are interested in showing the exit door to some players and Bernardo Silva has appeared as one of the shock names.
Silva has a long term contract with the Premier League Champions until June 2025. This will make him very expensive for any club. So, it will not be easy for the Citizens to move him on this summer unless they manage to achieve a swap deal.
Bernardo Silva is a very good talent and any football club around the world would be happy to sign him this summer. And he is also an integral part of the Portuguese national team. The midfielder’s consistency and ability to stay fit is a great attribute for any player.
If City sell Silva this summer then that will not be a great loss for them given the talents they have in that position. However, it will be a great coup for any team who will finalise this deal.
