Pochettino rejects loan plan of new Chelsea recruit Ugochukwu

About Football Express UK

Mauricio Pochettino intervened to prevent Chelsea from loaning out Lesley Ugochukwu this summer. That is despite previously stating that the player would be sent elsewhere upon his arrival.

Football Insider reports that Lesley Ugochukwu made a strong impression on Mauricio Pochettino shortly after his transfer from Rennes. As a result, any intentions to loan the midfielder out to further his development are not to take place.

Towards the end of July, when Chelsea was on the verge of signing Lesley Ugochukwu, Mauricio Pochettino was distancing himself from the deal by stating, “We need experience in midfield. I have the information you have. My information is a player that is from France that maybe they sign with the idea to send on loan. The information was already in your laptop.”

Indeed, as the transfer window came to a close, Lesley Ugochukwu remained available for Mauricio Pochettino’s use. He has been there as a substitute on two occasions in the Premier League. He played a full 90 minutes in a Carabao Cup victory over AFC Wimbledon.

What changed Pochettino view point on Ugochukwu?

Football Insider reports that Mauricio Pochettino has been impressed by the performances of the 19-year-old Lesley Ugochukwu. Thus, leading him to block Chelsea’s plans to loan him out during the summer transfer window.

The report acknowledges that there is still a possibility that Lesley Ugochukwu could go out on loan in January. Depending on how his situation develops in the coming months. However, for the time being, he has the chance to compete for a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s lineups.

Chelsea underwent a significant midfield overhaul during the summer. That is with the departures of players like N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, among others. This extensive change may have provided Lesley Ugochukwu with an opportunity to establish a role for himself within the team.
