Eddie Howe's concern

For an bid of £32 million, Newcastle obtained Southampton’s Tino Livramento’s signature. Livramento joins Harvey Barnes and Sandro Tonali as Eddie Howe’s summer signings. Livramento, a product of Chelsea’s academy, has a contract with the Magpies that lasts until 2028.

Tino Livramento completes medicals ahead of Newcastle move

For $5 million, Southampton acquired Livramento from Chelsea in the summer of 2021. However An knee injury sustained in April 2022 abruptly put an end to the England U21 international’s promising breakout season. The horrific incident forced him to miss nearly a year of play. In one of his two substitute appearances last season, Livramento made his comeback 392 days later against Brighton at the Amex, the same venue where he sustained the injury. Over his two seasons with the Saints, he has played in just 30 Premier League games. But we can’t deny that Livramento has a lot of potential. He might one day end up playing regularly for England squad in the future. Thus, the full back is now all set to mark his first impression for Newcastle United.

At St. James’ Park, Tino Livramento watched Newcastle finish their preseason match with a convincing victory over Villarreal on Sunday. The 20-year-old full-back joins Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes as Eddie Howe’s summer signings bidding goodbye to Southampton. According to a tweet from Keith Downie, Livramento is done with the medical tests for his move to Newcastle from Southampton. However There have been conflicting reports on Livramento’s price. After last week’s agreement, Downie claims Southampton would receive an initial payment of £32 million, but with add-ons, the total amount might reach £40 million.

On Saturday August 12, at St. James’ Park, Newcastle will take on Aston Villa to begin their 2023–24 Premier League campaign. Eddie Howe’s team, who finished fourth last season, will next head to the Etihad Stadium to take on champions Manchester City on August 19. Thus, it’s a golden oppurtunity for the new magpies squad to prove their mettle and finish in top 4 again by their “defensive prowess”.
