Manchester United linked with a move for Aston Villa ace John McGinn

John McGinn

Manchester United have reportedly shortlisted Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn as a potential new arrival to solve the midfield issue.

The Red Devils are set to go through yet another rebuild from next season under the impending boss Erik Ten Hag. Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard are likely to leave the club for free at the end of this season.

Nemanja Matic – who has confirmed his departure – and Juan Mata will also leave the club. Edinson Cavani will also leave, while Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is hanging in the air.

Meanwhile, Anthony Martial, Donny Van De Beek and Amad Diallo’s futures are also uncertain as they are currently on loan.

Recent reports are suggesting that the United’s hierarchy are looking to strengthen in three key areas in the summer. A defensive midfielder, a more advanced midfielder and a striker are the main areas where the record Premier League champions are looking to invest in the summer transfer window.

Is John McGinn a real target for Manchester United?

Manchester United have reportedly shortlisted Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips, Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Aurelien Tchouameni to resolve their midfield problems and the Villa man John McGinn is also on the list.

The Red Devils are looking to strengthen in the two different areas in the middle of the park. And the Scotsman could be an option for the advanced midfielder role.

However, the final decision will be dependent on the next permanent manager. Erik Ten Hag is likely to become the new manager and the final decision will be made by the Dutchman.

Manchester United will have to spend big for John McGinn. And with the Red Devils looking likely to miss out on qualifying for the Champions League next season, the club’s hierarchy should not break their bank for a single player. While they need strengthening in different areas of the current squad.
