Manchester City wants to sign RB Leipzig star Josko Gvardiol this summer. They’ll reportedly have to fork over a transfer record for a defender.
Furthermore, Fabrizio Romano reports that there is rising interest in the 21-year-old prodigy. And that City are one of three Premier League clubs after the center-back, along with Liverpool and Chelsea. The Croatian international is expected to depart the Bundesliga team at the end of current season.
Given how good the Leipzig wonderkid is and how intense Premier League interest has been in the teenager. Gvardiol might well shatter Harry Maguire’s £80 million sale to Manchester United in 2019.
Gvardiol has been a subject of speculation about City for some time. With interest peaked, like that of many others, during the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Croatian international was instrumental in helping the European nation get to the semifinals.
Gvardiol a target for Manchester City
Leipzig expected to want a defence transfer record fee this summer for their 21-year-old. Gvardiol undoubtedly one of the most highly sought-after players in all of Europe. As a result, City prepared to spend large money to recruit the youngster.
But since Pep Guardiola anticipated to recruit a top young defender this summer. The City manager might as well take a risk and try to sign Gvardiol, who could easily stay on the field for a great team for a decade.
City are one of the biggest spenders in football. One important aspect of their new acquisitions is how long most of their newcomers stay in the team. Players like Ederson Moraes, Kevin De Bruyne, and Kyle Walker were all acquired in the past but are still important players for the first team today.
Also, the Croatian talent is a player who could easily play for Guardiola’s team for many years and become an icon at the Etihad Stadium, just like the aforementioned names have in the past few seasons. And such thinking could be the reason why City will and should sign Gvardiol for a world-record fee for a defender.
