Arteta hopes to sign two midfielders for Arsenal this summer

Mikel Arteta

According to journalist Chris Wheatley, Declan Rice, Youri Tielemans, and Moises Caicedo have all been identified as targets. They are Arsenal’s and Mikel Arteta two midfielder acquisitions this summer.

It’s common knowledge that over the past year or two, manager Mikel Arteta has worked to improve the Gunners’ midfield.

After all, last summer, offers for Douglas Luiz were made and declined. In addition, they were rumoured to be interested in midfielder Tielemans of Leicester City.

They later attempted to purchase Caicedo from Brighton for £70 million in the winter. But ultimately settled for Jorginho, who came from Premier League rival Chelsea for £12 million. It appears that Arsenal will still want to buy two midfielders this summer. Even though they have finally added some depth with the Italian.

Declan Rice one of the players Mikel Arteta wants

“Declan Rice, certainly one of those. And then there’s a long list of players on the shortlist, which includes the likes of Youri Tielemans and Moises Caicedo, of course.”

It makes sense for the Arsenal to have numerous targets. Because there has been a lot of speculation about Rice leaving West Ham in the summer. Nevertheless, other teams like Chelsea are also potential destinations.

Caicedo sought after in the summer, as previously mentioned. But now that he has a new deal, he will cost much more. Even though clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United interested in him.

Tielemans will undoubtedly be the least expensive choice. He won’t extend the terms of his contract, which expires this summer. Yet, Arsenal would most likely be his lone suitor if he became a free agent.

Overall, it’s encouraging that Arteta has identified several targets. But given the intense transfer competition, it will be a tall order to sign not just one but two.
