Man Utd considering Mount as a “different” option to Bellingham

Manchester City

Erik ten Hag is searching for another attacking-midfielder. As Manchester United sold Paul Pogba to Juventus. Jesse Lingard to Nottingham Forest. Juan Mata to Galatasaray, and Andreas Pereira to Fulham last summer. Replacing them only with Christian Eriksen from Brentford and Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich.

Mason Mount’s future at Chelsea is up in the air, according to Jacob Steinberg of the Guardian, and United are interested in him. The 24-year-current old’s contract expires in 2024, and he is seeking a new one that recognises his value to the team. According to Steinberg, Mount now makes £75k per week at Stamford Bridge but has been offered £180k. It is uncertain whether he will accept the idea.

In 2019, Mount advanced from the Chelsea youth divisions to the first squad, and since then, he has made 192 appearances across all competitions, notching 33 goals and 37 assists. The 36-cap England international has played in 32 of 35 games in all competitions this season and has contributed five goals and five assists. He is a key member of the team.

According to Steinberg, United definitely desire Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, but Mount is a “more cheap” alternative. The 24-year-old produced 30 chances, made 32 tackles, and scored five goals in 23 league games, demonstrating his skill at giving up possession and generating opportunities for his teammates.

Bellingham might cost more than £100 million, but Mount might be had for £50 million. Chelsea has to recoup some of the $542 million it spent on new players in the last two transfer windows in order to comply with Financial Fair Play.

Todd Boehly, the club’s owner, reportedly objected to Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger leaving on a free transfer after their contracts expired; if the team cannot secure Mount’s commitment with a contract extension past 2024, Boehly will want compensation.

Nonetheless, it is still uncertain whether United will make a bid for Mount. They would like Bellingham, but the cost is a concern. Sabitzer appears likely to join permanently in the near future. Eriksen has excelled under Ten Hag, giving the Red Devils at least two playmakers. They can carry over to the upcoming season.
