Aston Villa is reportedly willing to let go of their star defender Ezri Konsa as per the report in English outlet Football Insider

The 23-years-old joined the Birmingham club back in 2019 from fellow Premier League club Brentford and since joining the club the Englishman has been an integral part of the first-team squad at the Villa Park, scoring five goals and notching up two assists in 82 Premier League appearances.

However, as per the report. New manager Steven Gerrard hasn’t been impressed by the defender’s performance since arriving at the club and the Liverpool legend is willing to cash in on the Englishman.

The report further claims that the Villans are eyeing a move for Liverpool outcast Joe Gomez. And they are ready to splash the cash for the 24-years-old in the summer transfer window.

Gerrard’s side reportedly tried to lure the Englishman in January. But the Reds weren’t keen on letting their star man go in midseason. Therefore, Villa might intensify their interest in the 24-years-old at the end of this season.

Will Gomez be a good fit for Aston Villa if they let Konsa go?

Signing Joe Gomez will be a great acquisition for Aston Villa. Although the Englishman has failed to break into the starting eleven this season. He was one of the key members of their defence when  Liverpool won the Champions League and Premier League.

However, selling Konsa might not be a shrewd decision by Steven Gerrard. The Englishman has shown glimpses of his talent over the past few campaigns. And the 23-years-old has the potential to become a very good centre-back in future.

Meanwhile, the former Rangers’ boss is keen on elevating the Villans’ status from a mid-table club to fight for the European spot. Therefore, the club is ready to invest in the squad to give the new manager enough resources to fight for their objectives.

Aston Villa is currently sitting in 13th in the Premier League with 27 points in 24 games. Gerrard started his tenure promisingly but has struggled in recent weeks as they only managed to win one league game in the last seven games.
