Crystal Palace 1-2 Aston Villa: Post-match analysis

About Football Express UK

Aston Villa came away victorious quite comfortably against Crystal Palace by 2-1 and the Villains have now won back to back games under the new manager Steven Gerrard.

The away side got the early lead through a goal from left-back Matt Target and was ahead at the interval. The second half substitute Douglas Luis picked a red card but with the help of the VAR, the referee changed his decision and awarded only a yellow card for the Villa man.

In the dying moments of the game, John McGinn doubled the margin for Gerrard’s side and secured the back to back win for the travelling side. However, deep into the stoppage time Palace scored one back courtesy of Marc Guehi which ruined the clean sheet for Emiliano Martínez.

Crystal Palace 1-2 Aston Villa:

Crystal Palace suffered their first defeat in the Premier League since they lost to Liverpool at Anfield by 3-0. And the Eagles have now conceded most goals in the league through set-pieces.

after the game speaking Crystal Palace boss, Patrick Vieira stated that he is happy with his team’s performances but his side should work on the set-pieces to tighten up the defence. Vieira said on the club’s website:

“I think we’ve always been clear about how we want to play the game. We know there are a couple of parts of the game we can improve on as a team. Obviously, the game against Aston Villa wasn’t good enough, and we know the parts of the game we need to work on to improve. We didn’t do enough against Villa to get a result. Overall I’m really happy with the approach to the games. When you go to Arsenal or to Manchester City, you are always going to concede chances.

“It’s about understanding the moment between the offensive moments, and the defensive moments. I think if we manage to defend well on set-pieces, we will concede less goals. In the open play, we manage to do well, not conceding so many chances. Obviously, the balance has to be right between attack and defence.”

The upcoming fixtures for both teams:

Crystal Palace will go head-to-head against Leeds United on their next game on Tuesday night in the Premier League and Aston Villa will host Manchester City the following night at the Villa Park.
