Chelsea have reportedly emerged as the favourite in the pursuit of Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish according to the report in Fichajes.
The England international has struggled with a shin injury in the recently concluded season. And the consequences of that the midfielder made only 24 starts in the Premier League. However, the 25-year-old scored six goals and assisted ten times, which shows Grealish’s attacking prowess.
The Villa talisman was instrumental for Dean Smith’s side in 2019-2020 where they survived relegation for just a single point on the last day. Grealish scored eight goals and five assists in the process.
The 25-year-old Englishman is currently on international duty to take part in Euro 2020. The midfielder has been linked to moving away from Villa Park for some time now. And the news has gathered pace following the arrival of Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City.
Can Chelsea sign Jack Grealish this summer?
According to the report in Fichajes Chelsea are looking to reinforce their squad in the summer and the Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has identified Jack Grealish as one of the targets.
The report further claims that Liverpool and Manchester City are also exploring the possibility of signing the Villa talisman. However, Chelsea are leading the race to land Grealish at Stamford Bridge.
Having signed the contract extension just a year ago. The English midfielder has four years remaining in his current contract with the club. And Aston Villa are asking around £100 million for their asset.
It will be interesting to see if Chelsea decide to spend the huge money on an attacking midfielder despite having an abundance of firepower in that area.
Following a poor debut season of Timo Werner, Tuchel’s side desperately required a world-class striker to compete for the Premier League title. And Chelsea are linked with a sensational move for Erling Braut Haaland. And the Norwegian will reportedly cost around €150 million in this transfer window.
Nevertheless, Chelsea have indicated that they will be active in the transfer market this summer as well. And it will be interesting to see if they can sign all the intended targets or not.
However, a world-class centre-forward is a must for the Blues to close the gap to Manchester City in the pursuit of the Premier League title next season.
