Arsenal eyeing a move for Leipzig’s Tyler Adams

Arsenal

Arsenal have reportedly shown an interest in RB Leipzig’s midfielder Tyler Adams, according to the report in The Athletic.

The USA international is a defensive-minded midfielder by traits. However, Julian Nagelsmann used the 22-year-old in the right-wing-back position. Adams flourished last season in that role by scoring 1 goal in 27 Bundesliga appearances.

Die Roten Bullen bought the American from New York Red Bulls back in 2019. The midfielder has been a squad player for Leipzig until the recently concluded season. And following an impressive season, the big European teams are starting to show an interest in Tyler Adams.

Arsenal are among those clubs who are in for the midfielder. The Gunners are about to lose their Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka and right-back Hector Bellerin is also linked to moving away from the Emirates Stadium. Tyler Adams could fill those two vacant spots on his own.

Will Arsenal sign Tyler Adams this summer?

According to reports in The Athletic, Arsenal have a clear plan for the transfer window, and the Gunners recruitment team are enticed by Adams’ versatility. The American can be used as a midfielder and also a right-back.

Tyler Adams has a contract with RB Leipzig until June 2025. With four years remaining in the midfielder’s contract, the German side are in a pretty strong position in this deal and might demand quite a hefty fee.

Jesse Marse will be taking charge of Leipzig’s managerial job next season. And it will be interesting to see if the American allows the American midfielder to leave the club this summer.

Nevertheless, if Arsenal were to sign Tyler Adams this summer, that would be a very good addition for Mikel Arteta’s side, given the player’s age and versatility.

However, Arteta could face a problem infusing the midfielder in the squad. Adams played in the right-wing-back position in the last couple of seasons and Arsenal don’t play with back three. And the midfielder has never played in the right-back spot where his service will be required in North London.

Meanwhile, Adams hardly ever played in the defensive midfield position for Leipzig and to use the midfielder in that position in the Premier League could become problematic for The Gunners boss.
