Aston Villa linked with a move for Juventus star Rodrigo Bentancur

About Football Express UK

Aston Villa is reportedly showing interest in signing Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur as per the report in English outlet Express and Star

The 24-years-old joined Bianconeri back in 2017 from Argentine giants Boca Junior for around £8 million. The midfielder has made 178 appearances in all competitions over the past four campaigns, scoring three goals.

According to the report, Aston Villa is keen on signing Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur for as little as £20 million. However, things will not be easy for the Birmingham based club to prise the midfielder away from the Allianz Stadium.

The report claims that there is a sell-on clause included in the deal when the Uruguayan joined the record Serie A champions. This means Juventus will have to pay 33% of any profit that they will earn from the 24-years-old’s sale. And this has become a huge stumbling block for the Villans to break a deal for Bentancur.

Will Aston Villa be able to sign Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus?

Signing Rodrigo Bentancur will be a great addition to Aston Villa. However, it is hard to believe that Bianconeri will let the key member of their squad leave the club in the middle of the season. So, this dream signing might never materialize for the Birmingham side.

Meanwhile, following the arrival of Steven Gerrard, he stated that he wants to improve this Villa side and challenge the European places. And their recent business and links are showing that they are keen on becoming one of the strongest teams in the country.

Gerrard has already signed Phillipe Coutinho from Barcelona and Lucas Digne from Everton who will help them improve going forward. In addition to that, they are linked with a move for Atletico Madrid forward Luis Suárez to strengthen the attacking options, despite having Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings at his disposal.

Therefore, signing Bentancur will be a statement purchase for Aston Villa. But, Juventus might not entertain any bid unless the Villa hierarchy comes up with a huge offer. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Rodrigo Bentancur at the Allianz Stadium. Massimiliano Allegri is looking to rebuild their squad with younger players to challenge for big prizes. And he would not like to lose their star midfielder at this stage of the season.
