Arsenal might be on the lookout for Amadou Onana from Everton

Arsenal

Arsenal has been in association with a potential move to sign Amadou Onana from Everton in the current transfer window. David Ornstein has weighed in on the rumors. Despite fan expectations for some activity in the transfer market, Arsenal has yet to make a move. However, among the players strongly linked with a switch to Arsenal is the talented Amadou Onana from Everton.

Amadou Onana joined Everton from Lille for a reported fee of £33 million in 2022. Arsenal showed interest in signing the midfielder before his move to Goodison Park, but no transfer materialized at that point.

The interest from Arsenal in the 22-year-old Amadou Onana reportedly remains robust. According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, there are ongoing talks between Mikel Arteta’s side and Everton. That is regarding the potential signing of Onana during this month’s transfer window.

Despite the rumors gaining momentum, David Ornstein addressed the situation in his Q&A on The Athletic, asserting that, as of now, there is no ongoing activity or negotiations between Arsenal and Everton regarding Amadou Onana. Additionally, he mentions that Onana’s agent being there in London this week doesn’t necessarily indicate imminent transfer discussions between the two clubs.

Can Arsenal succesfully get Onana?

The prospect of Arsenal affording Amadou Onana this month seems unlikely due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. However, despite the financial constraints, fans can always hold onto hope. The absence of Thomas Partey in the midfield has been a significant factor in Arsenal’s reduced fluidity compared to the previous season. There have been links suggesting Partey might consider a move away, potentially due to injury concerns.

Amadou Onana, at the age of 22, could be an incredible backup for Thomas Partey. Providing both short-term solutions and long-term potential. His physical presence, strength, ball-playing abilities, and demonstrated ability to compete with top Premier League opposition during his time at Everton make him a promising prospect.

If Arsenal could somehow secure the signing of Amadou Onana this month, this move would significantly enhance their chances of contending for the title in the current season.
