Arsenal are now keen to sign Lille midfielder Amadou Onana after rejecting the idea of making a swoop for Youri Tielemans in the transfer window.
The Gunners were initially interested in signing the Leicester midfielder this summer however the attention has turned to another target. Manager Mikel Arteta has identified the midfielder from Lille as a good target to include in his squad next season.
However, Arsenal are not the only vultures circling around to secure the services of the young prospect this summer. Rivals West Ham United are very much lurking in the background and in the race to obtain the signature of Onana.
Though, West Ham’s initial bid was rejected by the Serie A outfit in the hope of receiving an improved offer. This has given the North London club a chance to immediately step in and pace up to sign the midfielder.
Onana to join Arsenal this season?
Arsenal’s chief Edu has given the green signal for the club to go ahead with the pursuit of Amadou Onana. Moreover, the Gooners have gone a step further and contacted midfielder’s representatives to understand ‘finer details’ before placing a deal.
In the midst of the transfer speculations, Tielemans does not seem to be the club’s priority signing this summer. Moreover, Arsenal views the young Lille lad as an alternative to Tielemans having maturity on the pitch coupled with creativity.
The Emirates boss is pushing for Onana’s move to the London club and the speculated fee is around £25m. But, what seems certain is that Tielemans to Arsenal is no longer a subject of interest for the club.
Leicester would be happy to sell the player for a fee rather than on a free! On the other hand, Onana could be tempted to work with Arteta and the squad shaping up.
The transfer is still a long way to go, and the two clubs still need to reach personal terms for Onana.
