Alan Pardew showered praise on Chelsea’s central defender, Thiago Silva. He was the former manager of Newcastle United and West Ham United. Speaking on talkSPORT (September 17, 2023, at 6:39 pm), he described Thiago Silva as a player of world-class caliber.

Pardew also highlighted Thiago Silva’s leadership qualities. The talkSPORT pundit made these remarks while discussing Chelsea’s recent match against Bournemouth. In which they were unable to secure a victory.

In the Premier League clash, Chelsea played to a goalless draw against Bournemouth on the road. Meanwhile, Thiago Silva featured as part of Chelsea’s defensive line, positioned in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Pardew expressed his admiration, stating, “I look at Silva, and you know he is a leader, he is a world-class player.”

How good of a defender is Thiago Silva?

In our assessment, Thiago Silva ranks among the elite defenders globally and can be unequivocally classified as world-class. Indeed, much attention is rightfully present for Liverpool’s central defender, Virgil van Dijk, who is widely famous for his outstanding defensive prowess.

When it comes to Van Dijk is the fact that he hasn’t enjoyed the same sustained period of excellence as Silva. Van Dijk, the former Celtic defender, has arguably been at the peak of his abilities. That is for perhaps a maximum of three seasons during his tenure at Liverpool thus far.

Silva, who is currently 38 years old, has consistently delivered outstanding performances since his tenure at AC Milan from 2009 to 2012. His brilliance extended to his time at Paris Saint-Germain. And his transition to the Premier League with Chelsea has been seamless, demonstrating his enduring quality.

Thiago Silva has amassed a total of 87 appearances in the Premier League throughout his career. During these matches, the defender has contributed with five goals. Provided two assists, and played a key role in achieving 28 clean sheets.
