Arsenal fan and reporter Piers Morgan has said that Cristiano Ronaldo was open to a move in January. This was after Manchester United mutually terminated his contract.
However, the forward failed to receive approaches from top European and Premier League clubs. Hence, he had to sign for Saudi club Al Nassr.
ARSENAL DID NOT APPROACH TO SIGN RONALDO
According to reporter and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan, Cristiano Ronaldo was open to a move to the Gunners. However, the Gunners did not approach him. This is after his release from Manchester United in the Premier League. A report also claims that Arsenal and Chelsea were both monitoring his situation. However, they rejected the Ronaldo signing because of his age.
Arsenal fans were trolling the club for failing to win the Premier League title this season on Twitter. Hence, Piers Morgan also joined in. He wrote, “Mock all you like, but if we’d signed Ronaldo when he left Utd, until the end of the season – as he was keen to do by the way – we would have won the league. He knows how to win major trophies, and how to score goals when it really matters.
THE SIGNING HAD ISSUES AND PROBLEMS WRITTEN ALL OVER IT
Cristiano Ronaldo also did an interview with Piers Morgan. He also trolled the running of Manchester United as a club. The forward also did not speak highly of Erik Ten Hag. Hence, Arsenal felt that the potential signing of Ronaldo would disrupt the dressing room. They also felt that money could be reinvested in young players.
Arsenal wanted to stay true to their transfer policy of signing young players with bright future. Hence, Cristiano Ronaldo finally had to sign for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia. However, the experience in Saudi has not hurt him at all. This is because he has scored plenty of goals for the team. He has also managed to retain a place under Roberto Martinez in the national team.
However, one thing that Arsenal fans cannot deny is that the team would have benefitted from the signing of Ronaldo. Ronaldo would have added goals and his experience in winning trophies. This are things the Gunners ended up missing in the end.
